Ektara

Ektara

An intricate science of looming, the Ektara, is a master craft and result of many man-hours of intensive weaving. Ektara or single Taar is an equivalent to needle point work and craftsmanship with an age-old, highly sophisticated multi warp heddle shaft or Gethua and five treadle or Paanch Kaadhi technique in the pit loom. The base fabric formed here shows the warp in an almost mesh like texture which is ultra-light in weight. At Warp 'n Weft we create the finest, sheerest and glistening Ektara Jamdani sarees with pure silver zari in muslin and Sidlaghatta silk warps, the country's prized homegrown mulberry yarn. This famed saree is often referred to as a 'woven breeze' with its gossamer-like decadence. Typically, three craftsmen and two master weavers work together on a saree and it can take six to nine months to create these heirlooms. Slow artisanal luxury at its finest.
